San Francisco PornFilmFestival Debuts Crowdfunding Campaign

SAN FRANCISCO — Pink and White Productions has launched a crowdfunding campaign to support the 2022 San Francisco PornFilmFestival, set to unspool online and in person at the Brava Theater Center, from Aug. 24-27.

The initial $9,000 fundraising goal will cover the cost of theater rental and secure stipends for over 90 participating filmmakers, among other needs. Festival Director Shine Louise Houston noted that contributor perks include festival passes, commemorative T-shirts and memberships to PinkLabel.tv.

"The San Francisco PornFilmFestival launched in 2020, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first public porn screening in the United States — the San Francisco Erotic Film Festival in 1970," explained a rep. Due to COVID-19, that premiere event was completely virtual, thanks in part to a crowdfunding campaign that ultimately raised over $11,000 to support the cost of building an in-house livestream platform.

The 2021 edition offered a hybrid festival with screenings broadcast live from the Brava Theater. Notable attendees included such Golden Age icons as ecosexual artist Annie Sprinkle and C.J. Laing of "Barbara Broadcast" fame. On stage, Criterion Collection film historian Jenni Olson of the Bressan Project shared a talk with Robert Adam, star of Arthur J. Bressan Jr.'s 1974 classic, "Forbidden Letters." Nan Kinney of Fatale Media presented "Safe is Desire" and spoke about the 1993 erotic film in today's context.

This year's hybrid fest will adhere to the COVID safety guidelines of California and the Brava Theater.

"Online programs will offer a safe and accessible event for viewers tuning in from around the world," the rep said. "Organizers are thrilled to present films from the Bay Area and internationally, in a festival that strives to push the genre and expand the cinematic landscape of sexuality."
